夏休み自由研究の一つとして、「京都を街行く外国の方にインタビュー」を行ってみました♪
今まで培った子どもたちの英語力は、アリー先生だけでなく、ほかの人にも通じるのだろうか？
先生も不安いっぱいでしたが、素晴らしい成果が出ました。

This year, at THE HOPPA ROYAL KIDS summer course, we had many kids attending.
Part of the summer school Program at THE HOPPA ROYAL KIDS is to help the children with their school homework.
One of our students this year received a summer research project.
How could we make this project special and unique?….
Then we got an idea!
LET’S INTERVIEW PEOPLE WHO ARE VISITING KYOTO FROM OTHER COUNTRIES!!!!
We decided to use the students` English skills for the research project!
What a great opportunity!
This opportunity was too special to pass for the other students.
Including the other members of the afternoon class, we all went searching for people who spoke English.
京都を観光中の外国の方にインタビュー開始です♪
外国の方に突撃インタビュー。
大人でもなかなかできることではありませんよね 😯
The kids started off nervous, but as time passed, they became used to asking questions.
The kids also had fun looking for people to ask.
They always had a smile on their face!!
最初は緊張していた子どもたちも時間がたつにつれ、だんだんと慣れてきた様子。
インタビューを楽しむ子どもたちからは、笑顔も多くみられました♪
We interviewed so many people!
Everyone praised the kids on their ability to speak English and their confidence!
胸をはって英語を話す子どもたちの姿、そしてその英語力を、インタビューに答えて下さったみなさん、褒めて下さいましたよ！
Did you know that THE HOPPA ROYAL KIDS is located inside a hotel?
This is a central location to meet travelers and speak English with them.
We even manage to find some guest from the Hotel!
At the end of the interviews, the kids wanted to find more people!
THE HOPPA ROYAL KIDSは、京都の中心地、四条烏丸の「からすま京都ホテル」の4階にあります。
ここは、外国の旅行客の方も多く、ホテル内でもインタビューができました♪
インタビューが楽しくて仕方がない様子の子どもたちは、最後まで夢中でインタビューを受けてくれる方を探していましたよ 😉

Why do the interviews?
Many people around the world speak English.
During the HOPPA ROYAL KIDS Summer School course, we wanted to take advantage of the tourist season and expose the kids to different countries.
The kids could practice English with friendly visitors.
This exercise was fun and increase the kid’s interest in English.
They wanted to do it every day and meet more people from different countries!
世界中の多くの方が英語を話すこの世の中。
THE HOPPA ROYAL KIDSのサマースクールでは、京都への外国観光客が多いこの時期をいかし、子どもたちに様々な文化にふれてほしいと考えました。
子どもたちは、親切な外国の方々から英語を学ぶことができました。
この経験は楽しく、子どもたちの英語への興味関心を向上させるものでした。
毎日でもやりたい！そして多くの国籍の方と出会いたい、と思ってくれた子どもたちです。
子どもたちはインタビューする上で、下記のことも学びました。
Our kids also practiced the following interview skills:
①Looking people in the eye when the talk to you. （人の目をみて話をすること）
②Using a clear loud voice. （はっきりと大きな声で話すこと）
③How to introduce themselves. （自己紹介の仕方）
④How to listen to others when they speak. （相手の話の聞き方）
⑤After was asked questions to see if the kids could hear the answers.

今回の取り組みで、ロイヤルキッズの子どもたちは、自信を持って英語を話すことを学びました。
始めは「怖いなあ」と言ってた子どもたちも、最後には「もう一回やりたい」と伝えてくれました。
単に、英語を話すことだけではなく、相手の目を見て、話を聞いて、言葉のキャッチボールをすることこそが、英会話を楽しむ醍醐味だということを、子どたちたちはインタビューの回数を増やすごとに体感していることが伝わってきました。
ロイヤルキッズの子どもたちが、将来英語を通して世界で活躍できる人となってほしいと願います。（THE HOPPA ROYAL KIDSマネージャー 正木智子）
